5 out of 5 stars Brilliance on a disc!    December 30, 2008

FIFA09 in my humblest of opinion is by far and away the greatest football simulation released to date.

I play this online and literally shout at the screen as I would when my beloved NUFC play, it brings out my competitive nature more than any other game. Seeing as it is one on one in the online mode that I play, it is simply you against somebody else online and games can be fierce!

You can be at a stalemate up to the 80th minute and then smash a goal home or have one blitzed past your own keeper. Emotions can certainly run high and I rarely shout at my TV on any other game than this. Never has the game been captured so well as to how FIFA have managed to do here. I was all for PES until moving over last year and FIFA is heads and shoulders above PES at this moment in time.

For the few little imperfections in this game which there are a few, the enjoyment factor is that high that I rarely notice anything other than where my striker is positioned and whether or not I should lob the keeper or try for a toe poke!

If you love football and gaming, this game is a MUST!

2 out of 5 stars Pretty but, Very Disapponiting Gameplay.    December 29, 2008

I was surprised to see this game on sale in mid December for a as little as 20 as this only been in the shops for a few months. After buying this and playing it on my PS3 I quickly found out why. There is no doubting that there is some nice touches. I like the way you can have a practice while the console loads the next match and Graphics are crisp. The BIG problem is that the gameplay is awful. Playing against the computer is very frustrating. Keeping possession is very difficult indeed and tackling your opposition is equally tough. When you have possession get any where near your opposition you will be quickly dispossesed and when your looking to play a ball in the last third you may as well not bother. When they have possession it almost impossible to win the ball back. You can literally have your player stand right next the bloke who has the ball and franctically bash your tackle button and nothing happen's which is a joke when consider how easy for them it is to dispossess you! The other thing that they have got totally wrong is when your the defending team the player you end up controlling is often 20yards away so you end up having to constantly to switch to a player who's nearer to the ball which can take up crucial time, by which time they have a goal scoring chance. I also found the menu's are very poorly structured and when you want to set up a match, the game automatically tries to connect you online before giving the choice to play V's the computer but, when you consider the above I guess that that is no surprise. Perhaps EA know that its rubbish too.

Back to the drawing board with this one. They should have people play test their games more before they release them.

4 out of 5 stars Signs of improvement from EA    December 28, 2008

I have to say that initially I thought that the game-play was a little bit slow compared to what I have experienced with PES, however after setting the speed to `fast' this allows for thoughtful and intuitive game-play.

The graphics are excellent as you would expect and it's always nice to be able to play with real players in real teams in real leagues (no more England League for me). As well as this there is a quality feel of professionalism in this game that has always been lacking from PES.

On the downside the fun-factor is missing a little, something which EA and Konami seem to be neglecting in recent years.

After having played both FIFA09 and PES09 I would recommend FIFA09 this year.

2 out of 5 stars You better have the patience of a saint!    December 14, 2008

I last played Fifa in 2001 on a ps2 and loved it (and was pretty good at it too I might add). Blimey how its changed. Look, don't get me wrong, super graphics and a zillion options but try getting stuck in to a simple game and you'll get walked all over.
The practice area consists of just you and a keeper, thats it...mmm not really helping with the passing or tackling skills. - Yes I can now juggle the ball with both feet but thats a fat lot of use during the game (the A.I. opposition defence is made up of anphetamine drinking mind readers).
IF it had a PROPER tutorial area I would have loved this game.
I just need some decent guidance - EA sports online dont offer much - thats for sure.
IF you've played Fifa in recent years or youre a hardened FIFA head you may have become accustomed to it, in which case you may be ok.
IF youre new to it - you better have the patience of a saint or a personal tutor.
Its stressful rather than exciting.
Some will say Im saying this because Im crap at it. Theyre absolutely right, but I am not alone - and if they want to sell more copies they'd better get some decent training on board.
Otherwise it looks brilliant.

5 out of 5 stars Prefere it over the Pro Evolution..    December 13, 2008

Well, the main problem to me was to choose between the Fifa 09 and PES 2009.

But it was real simple, i played both games and Fifa kicks Pes outta game.

I was an hard core PES gamer, but this last one, comparing to Fifa.. Its nothing..

Buy Fifa instead of Pes.
